Project Name: Construct Walls and Roof at Gobin Church
Date: 3/2/2019 Location: Leon Circuit

Name of Beneficiary: Village of Gobin

The church building at Gobin was in deplorable condition prior to Hurricane Matthew. In November 2016 Hurricane Matthew totally destroyed the remaining building. In Spring 2018, Hearts for Haiti Kentucky began the foundation for a new church building. In November 2018 funds were provided to manufacture block for the project onsite. The 2019 project is to erect the walls. Future work includes completing the roof and furnishing pews for the congregation.

Mobile medical clinics will be conducted at the construction site.

The problem is that the congregation at Gobin does not have a safe and secure place to worship.

The target group is the existing congregation at Gobin and the general population in the village of Gobin. The sanctuary will not only provide a place for worship but will serve as a community meeting place for other functions such as area wide hygiene classes. The building can also serve as a safe refuge during storms.

The goal is to see a vibrant congregation worshipping in a secure building.

The Circuit Superintendent (Zeyphr) will provide oversight for this project and will release funds as received and as necessary to the EMH engineer (ING Rousse). The EMH engineer will serve as a construction consultant and will act as the purchasing agent. The church steward will provide on the ground responsibility for receipt of materials and the security of building material inventory. The site engineer will be responsible for issuing an after project report including a reconciliation of funds expended compared to the original or revised budget.

Hearts for Haiti will provide a team of volunteers to assist the local labor force in the construction. A minimum of three Haitian workers will be hired for each team member. Hearts for Haiti previously provided 455,000 goudes ($6,667 US) for the foundation and 150,000 goudes ($2,000 US) for onsite manufacture of block. Hearts for Haiti has provided funding in the amount of 750,000 goudes ($10,000 US) for the construction of the walls. Future costs of 743,175 goudes ($9,909 US) for stucco and paint and 412,447goudes ($5,499 US) for roofing remains to be funded.Future costs to operate and maintain the sanctuary will be the responsibility of the congregation at Gobin. The responsibility for the ongoing activities of the church falls to the local lay preacher and the Circuit Superintendent.

The main activities for Spring 2019 is construction of the walls. As funds are available the application of stucco to the walls may begin. Fund raising will continue until such time as funds are available to complete the roof in 2020.

Documents submitted include complete building plans and budget estimates submitted by the local engineer Patrick Duval.

A financial reconciliation will be presented to Hearts for Haiti no later than 60 days after completion of each phase of the work which include 1. Walls 2. Stucco and paint 3. Roof 4. Project Completion.
